Just woke up and had some breakfast. Didn't really sleep well last night, but hope to cover some ground today. My only real worry is that I will truly be in the backwoods and looking ahead to some major mountain ranges. I will tale Route 234 west to US Route 30 west.

About thirty minutes after I left camp I stopped on a little hill to sip some water. Two cyclists came up and stopped to chat. Both were good looking women. We all spoke for about ten minutes on the side of this lonely back road. If I remember their names correctly they were Donna and Angie. I told them about my concerns of the ruralness of today's trip. They said on the contrary, I was a mile away from US Route 30, which ultimately leads to Chicago where I will visit a friend. They both recommended I take that instead of trying to pedal through the roller coaster hills of Route 234.

They were right! US 30 had a nice shoulder, plenty to see and places to eat. It even went through the historic Civil War town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The two ladies were fun to speak with. They wished me well and mentioned that next month they were going to do a similar trip across the U.S. Donna never rode a fully loaded touring bike so she got on my loaded Cannondale bicycle and couldn't believe how heavy it was. They were very inspirational especially at that time of the morning. I also owe them a big thank you for their great route recommendation. Both were teachers from Bucks County.

After that I was breezing through the whole day until the end on US Route 30 west before Caledonia State Park when I was forced to walk the bicycle up this hill that wouldn't end.

I'm camping here at Caledonia, which costs $16.00. Mostly families here so I feel out of place, but who cares. Just heard that it was 84 degrees.

Haven't called home yet and I know I should. My mom loves to worry so I'll give her a call tomorrow morning, which makes it one week ago that I left. It's so weird because after all this time I am still in Pennsylvania. I do know that I am further out because most of the radio stations play country music-yuk!

I feel that the training in progress is starting to take effect and I'm getting more acquainted with the bike, its handling and the load.

My average speed today would have been over 10 mph if it weren't for my having to walk the bike up that last endless hill before the camp entrance. For some reason going downhill I couldn't really get past 8 mph. The road surface on this last stretch of Route 30 was a course concrete that would just zap all the energy out of me. The minute I was on another type of road surface I was fine. Another thing, two spokes on my rear wheel keep loosening up almost daily so that certainly has to be a contributing factor.
